Joe has been a Rotarian since 1983 in the Rotary Club of Hamilton Township. He is a Past President (2001-2002.) He has served as Club Director, Club Chaplain, Club Membership Chair, Club Sgt. At Arms, and District Sgt. At Arms. He has been District Membership Chair for 4 years and presently is the District Membership Director since Gov. Andy Calamaras created that post and appointed him the first Director. Joe has attended the Rotary Leadership Institute and has lectured on Membership at every PETS I & II and District Assembly for the last 4 years. He is a Paul Harris Fellow, the 2004 recipient of the Carl E Kurlander Spirit of Rotary Award and the 2006 recipient of the F.S. “Matty” Mathewson Rotarian of the Year Award. He has also been involved in scouting both as a scout and a volunteer leader for 37 years and is a member of the Order of the Arrow Born and raised in New York City, the son of Italian immigrants, and product of the NYC Public School system, he also spent a number of years in a Franciscan monastery and finished his education at Seton Hall University with a degree in Philosophy and one in Psychology. He has resided in New Jersey since 1956. He spent 3 years in the military as a research meteorologist, finding time, simultaneously, to create and host a TV and Radio Weather Show and conduct a church choir. Upon returning to civilian life he became the regional (8 states) director for a start up life insurance company and remained with the company until he started his own business He finds the dedication and ethics of Rotary quite similar to those he learned in the monastery, in his church and in scouting. Joe has recently (2005) closed his kitchen cabinet design and installation business and is now embarked on a new career involving Consulting, Internet sales of nutritional products and Internet web site development and advertising. He is married to the ever patient Marie since 1962 and they are the proud parents of 3 wonderful children, Mark, Joseph, Jr., (an Eagle Scout) and Maria; and the proud grandparents of Paul, Nick and Lara Scandariato. They enjoy spending time visiting them in Chicago, IL, and Cary, NC, and can claim to have visited Rotary Clubs all over the US, parts of Europe, and in the Himalayan Mountains of India. |
