Around the globe, Rotary, through its local Rotary Clubs, and the Rotary foundation, has made a huge impact on the quality of life, world wide.

In 1979, Rotary immunized over 6 million children in the Philippines against Polio. That was the start of a program, Polio Plus, that Rotary has carried out by giving free polio vaccine to millions each year. Today only Afghanistan and Pakistan have endemic polio. Only one of the three strains of the disease still exist. The rest of the world has been freed of a disease that used to paralyze over 500,000 people (mostly children) every year around the world.

Each year, Rotary provides adults with over 130 peace scholarships where students from one country study in another country and network with a goal of training leaders throughout the world how to work for peace. These scholarships are fully paid by Rotary.

The Rotary Foundation and clubs invest in our future leaders and philanthropists by funding scholarships for undergraduate and graduate study. Each year Rotary gives approximately $7.5 million in scholarships.

Rotary Clubs are the chief source of revenue and networking for Shelter Box, and international disaster response organization.

International service projects focus on clean water initiatives, micro loans, local education and a myriad of other improvements to life in underdeveloped nations.
Local Rotary clubs are made up of people from all walks of life and usually represent a very broad cross section of skills and professions in the community they serve. This broad range of skills and professions leads to excellent networking and many different perspectives to address any issue in the local area. It also leads to better understanding and cooperation among club members and other members of the community..
